I have ideas. Some are good and some are not as good. Most are terrible.
The background theory/motivation was simple. As we get older our archive of experiences grows and we do less and less. Adventure becomes difficult to find in combination with our comfort zone expanding to a point where very little scares, amazes, excites or challenges us anymore.
Survival no longer relies on instinct
Survival no longer relies on instinct. Well not really. Today’s version of a survival instinct is anything from knowing what the latest and greatest “life hack” is to having the sense to turn off roaming while travelling abroad. Far from the Bear Grylls version where knowing how to give ourselves seagull poo enemas to hydrate is life or death information. Don’t get me wrong I like watching the big ol’ Bear but is it highly likely that about 100% of people that own a TV and have access to his survival omnibus actually need to know anything he says.
Remember when we were younger how we thrived on excitement! Was that intentional or was it because we had so little experience at doing “life” that everything was new and exciting so we had to embrace the unknown?
Time, our enemy (damn you time!), passes. We get old and tired and we embrace the familiar.
After all we spend so much time growing up with things being new and scary that being surrounded with friendly faces and things is quite nice for a change (fire up the theme from the sitcom Cheers). We build a comfort zone. What happens to many is they forget the things they loved about those exciting younger days and in a way get trapped in the familiar. We stop trying new things and stop seeking adventure when perhaps we need it most.
Sometimes what is familiar isn’t what is best for us but to make change or step outside of the zone is to step back into a world that hadn’t seen our footsteps for a long time.
Can we do it? Frack yeah we can!
So this is a blog. I’m not good at blogs. They are not in my comfort zone so in way I’m already on the right track. It’s not here for you… believe me. I may or may not even know you. I don’t really mind who sees or doesn’t see this but I wanted a way outside of flippin’ facebook to document some of the things that will a part of my new idea… my efforts into the unknown will be here. My war on the comfort zone.
This is it.
